This specimen was lot 24389 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Empire of Maximilian. 10 Centavos, 1865-G. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS AU-58 Secure Holder. Faintest trace of rub over original toning. Nicely struck with good eye appeal." This specimen is a rather scarce date of a series struck 1864-1865 at the Guanajuato mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including this one by the Maximilian regime (note the crown on the eagle's head). It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898.

Specification: 2.707 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Catalog reference: KM-386.
