The Culiacan mint struck eight escudos 1846-70 and most dates are reasonably available but are seldom seen in this quality. The first specimen was lot 22320 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,586.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1856 C-CE, XF. Lustrous, with no major imperfections." It is actually 1865-C, not 1856-C as described.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-66, KM 383.2.
