Heritage sale 3073, lot 33484
Mexico H3073-33484r.jpg

This specimen was lot 33484 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 8 Reales 1865/4 Zs-MO AU55 NGC, Zacatecas mint. Decently preserved with a shimmering chromatic burnt-sienna throughout and rolling tones that have an attractive interplay with the devices. Dunnigan and Parker note that '...the availability of this coin is quickly decreasing' and a chance to acquire such a fine representation should not be overlooked." Embroiled in the war between the emperor Maximilian and the republicans, none of the mints produced much coinage in 1865.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 377.13, DP-Zs50 ("Rare").
