Mexico 1836-Ga JG 8 escudos
This specimen was lot 1276 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $4,993.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Guadalajara. 8 Escudos, 1836-GaJG. PCGS Genuine--Damage, AU Details Secure Holder. Very scarce mint. Well struck with typical minor weakness in centers. Light field smoothing that is barely noticeable. A very acceptable example of an 8 Escudos from this hard to locate mint." Guadalajara struck gold for Mexico throughout the years of the Republic but concentrated its production on two escudos. Eight escudos were emitted 1825-66; no date is common but the 1836 JG is rare.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
