This specimen was lot 41284 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "The Soho Mint's Enchanting Proof Patterns, MEXICO. 1/4 Real Pattern, 1836. Birmingham (Soho) Mint. NGC PROOF-62 Brown. Plain Edge; Coin Orientation. By John Sherriff. A wonderful Mint State example with dignified brown patina. Only a few scattered marks are detectable, and even these disappear into the richly toned surfaces. The piece otherwise flaunts exceedingly sharp detail and shimmering fields. From the EMO Collection." This was manufactured by way of a salesman's sample; the chaos in Mexico prevented the regime from seriously considering any foreign proposals for coinage.
