Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70869

This specimen was lot 70869 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1836-Zs OM. Zacatecas Mint. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. A presentable example of the date with a good strike and light gray tone." Overdates 1836/5 and 1836/4 are reported and given a small premium in the SCWC. Assayer OM operated 1831-55, one of the longest tenures during the Republic.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
