This specimen was part of lot 73100 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $915. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Group of 2 Reales (10 Pieces), 1835-43. Guanajuato Mint. Grade Range: FINE to VERY FINE. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Shown is an 1835-G^O PJ two reales, one of a type struck at the Guanajuato mint 1825-68. Assayer PJ is recorded at this mint for the years 1834-42. Other mints include Zacatecas, Mexico City, Alamos, Hermosillo, Potosi, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Guadalajara, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. This is a common date of a common mint although the 1835/4 overdate is slightly scarce.
