This specimen was lot 662 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Lippe-Detmold. 2 Taler, 1843-A. NGC MS-64. Finest certified example. Sharply struck with iridescent toning and reflective surfaces. A handsome example. From the Rockaway Collection." This double thaler, issued 1843 only, is the only double thaler issued from this locale in the nineteenth century. Tho not cheap, it is more available than many issues from other states.
