This specimen was lot 30679 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxe-Altenburg. Joseph 2 Taler 1843-G MS64 PCGS, Dresden mint. Possessed of an appearance not unlike that of a Proof issue, though determined by PCGS to not be so, with glassy fields sporting sunset and iridescent blue coloration, as well as nicely frosted devices that are essentially free of distractions. A memorable example of the type, and ideally one experienced in hand to appreciate its full charm." Despite the small mintage, enough of this 1841-47 type was saved that it is today only scarce, not rare. It is the only double thaler of this ruler, altho single thalers were also struck (Dav-812).

Recorded mintage: 4,700.

Specification: 37.10 g, 0.900 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-811; KM 20.
