Sincona sale 18, lot 1228

This specimen was lot 1228 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 180 (about US$237 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Doppelter Vereinstaler 1843. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Grand duchy of Baden-Durlach, double union thaler of 1843, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type of 1841-43 has low mintages and is somewhat scarce. The grand duchy issued coins until 1918.

Recorded mintage: 35,300.

Specification: 37.12 g, 0.900 fine silver, 1.074 troy oz ASW; this specimen is 37,03 g.
