This specimen was lot 20485 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bavaria. 2 Taler (3 1/2 Gulden), 1843. NGC MS-63+. Population of one at this level at the grading services with a single piece a point finer (MS-64) at PCGS. Brilliant nearly all white surfaces and free of major marks. A hint of deep blue tone at the peripheries. A circulation issue typically found with considerable wear, the piece offered here is truly an outstanding example." This type, the regular issue of 1842-48, is now scarcer than many of the commemoratives issued in the same period.
