SB523-72214r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72214 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Lippe-Detmold. 1-1/2 Pfennig, 1825-T. Lemgo Mint. Paul Alexander Leopold II. NGC AU-58. A minor planchet irregularity is noted near the edge, but this charming, near-Mint specimen presents a level of quality SCARCELY encountered for the denomination." This type was struck 1821-25. We don't know the mintage but it was likely small, as Lippe was small and impoverished.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: KM-243; J-7.
