Sincona sale 101, lot 2879

The first specimen was lot 4157 in Sincona sale 67 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 11,000 CHF (about US$14,482 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN | Qajar Dynasty | Nâsir al-dîn Shâh, 1264-1313 H./1848-1896 AD, Machine struck coinage, always with the mint name Tihrân, gold coins and patterns for gold coins. Commemorative 10 Toman 1313 H. On the occasion of the 50 years of reign. Bust half left, rev. be-minna ta'âlâ / emtiyâz-i 'îd-i dhûl-qarnayn shâh / dar sharaf bartar bud az mihr u mâh / dhî l-qa'da 1313. Very rare. PCGS AU58."

The second specimen was lot 2879 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 5,000 CHF (about US$7,536 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"IRAN Qajar Dynasty, Nasir al-Din Shah, 1264-1313 AH (1848-1896). 10 Tomans 1313 AH (1895/1896), Tehran Mint. On the 50th Anniversary of his Reign. Selten, Gereinigt, Rare. PCGS Genuine XF Detail[s]. Cleaned."

The first specimen was incorrectly catalogued as KM PnA22 and the second as KM 945, which is the regular issue of AH 1297 and AH 1311 with a different reverse legend. The coin is actually listed as KM X14 because of its semi-medallic nature. The shah was assassinated before he could celebrate the anniversary commemorated on this coin.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.74 g, 0.900 fine gold.
