This specimen was lot 648 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hesse-Cassel. Taler, 1637. Wilhelm V the Steadfast (1627-37). NGC AU-58. Finest certified. Unique symbolism making reference to the maelstrom of the Thirty Years war. Dark toned with nice details. From the Rockaway Collection." Davenport lists 13 different thalers (Dav-6757, -6759, Dav-6760, -6761, -6762, -6763, Dav-A6764, Dav-6765, -6766, -6770, -6771, Dav-6772, -6773, not counting double thalers) from Hesse-Cassel for 1637. This is one of the less common.
