Sincona sale 101, lot 2473

This specimen was lot 2473 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 2,750 CHF (about US$4,145 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Hessen-Kassel, Landgrafschaft, ab 1803 Kurfürstentum, Wilhelm VI. 1637-1663, bis 1650 unter Vormundschaft seiner Mutter Amalie Elisabeth von Hanau-Münzenberg. Taler 1651, Kassel. Auf den Tod seiner Mutter Amalie Elisabeth. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. Gutes vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand. (Germany, landgraviate of Hesse-Cassel, William VI, 1637-63, until 1650 under the regency of his mother Amalie Elisabeth von Hanau-Münzenberg, thaler of 1651, Kassel mint, on the death of his mother. Very rare in this condition, About Uncirculated, Attractively toned, Flan flaw on edge.)"

After issuing a flurry of thalers in the 1630's, this state issued almost no thalers for the rest of the seventeenth century. This is an exception.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 28.91 g.

Catalog reference: KM 220, Müller 21 A 4. Müseler 28 1/5. Dav-6768.
