This specimen was lot 25136 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Hesse-Cassel. "Willow Tree" Taler, 1635-LH. Cassel Mint. Wilhelm V. NGC AU-55. Full of interesting iconography, such as a personification of the winds, a radiant tetragrammaton, and the type's namesake, a billowing willow tree, this lightly handled crown offers deep toning and tremendous originality. From the Augustana Collection." This one year type was issued during the reign of the landgrave William V (r. 1627-37); twelve different thalers are known with this theme, all dated 1628-38. After William V's death, coinage for this state lapsed back into somnolence.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.
