This specimen was lot 24014 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Hesse-Cassel. Wilhelm V Taler 1633-TS, MS62 NGC, very scarce and lightly toned with an abundance of luster; exceptional." This rare three-year type was issued during the reign of the landgrave William V (r. 1627-37); twelve different thalers are known with this theme, all dated 1628-38. Hesse-Cassel was promoted to an Electorate in 1803 and was annexed by Prussia in 1866.
