This specimen was lot 74623 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Frankfurt. Kreuzer, 1856. Frankfurt Mint. PCGS MS-66. Endowed with sweeping uster, patches of bright pastel blue intermingle with dominate olive-apricot iridescence on this little German minor. From by far the most common year in terms of mintage, this piece would be the ideal type coin for any numismatists who have their heart set on superior quality. PCGS has only certified a single example finer (MS-67 finest)." This tiny billon coin was struck 1838, 1841-57. The thaler was 120 kreuzer. The lowest value coin struck in Frankfurt at the time was the heller, one eighth of a kreuzer.
