Sincona sale 11, lot 874

This specimen was lot 874 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Frankfurt am Main, Stadt Dukat 1856. Fast FDC. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, ducat of 1856, choice uncirculated.)"

This type, issued 1853 and 1856, appeared at a time when ducats were becoming distinctly unfashionable. This type is rare.

Recorded mintage: 114,496.

Specification: 3.50 g, .998 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.48 g.
