Sincona sale 18, lot 1386

This specimen was lot 1386 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Vereinstaler 1859. 100. Gebu[rt]stag von Friedrich von Schiller. Vorzüglich-fast vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, union thaler of 1859, centennial of Friedrich von Schiller. Extremely fine.)"

The city of Frankfurt was a prolific issuer of thalers and double thalers from the 1840's until it was swallowed up by Prussia in 1866. This date, celebrating Schiller's 100th birthday, is common.

Recorded mintage: 25,000.
