Sincona sale 18, lot 1387

This specimen was lot 1387 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Vereinstaler 1860. Vorzüglich-sehr schön. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, union thaler of 1860, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The city of Frankfurt was a prolific issuer of thalers and double thalers from the 1840's until it was swallowed up by Prussia in 1866. This date is common.

Recorded mintage: 1,700,000.

Specification: 18.52 g, 0.900 fine silver, lettered edge, this specimen 18.48 g.
