Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74529

This specimen was lot 74529 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Frankfurt. Gulden, 1859. Free City. PCGS MS-66. A simply beautiful example of this minor type, the surfaces wholesome and lustrous, and sporting a bold strike, with the details of the eagle's feathers and the leaves upon the wreath struck to exacting detail. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This type was struck 1859 and 1861 and is not common. Frankfurt was annexed to Prussia in 1866 and her coinage ended.
