Künker sale 354, lot 5771

This specimen was lot 5771 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €400 (about US$557 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKFURT, STADT, Gulden 1850. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Patina, fast Stempelglanz. (Germany, city of Frankfurt, gulden of 1850. Rare in this quality, choice example, superb patina, about uncirculated.)"

This denomination, slightly larger than a French two francs, was struck in Frankfurt 1838-63. This date is common for the type, which was issued 1842-55. It was accompanied by a half gulden and double gulden (Dav-642).

Recorded mintage: 29,900.

Specification: 10.6 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 10.61 g.
