This specimen was lot 4027 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $368. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Frankfurt am Main. 2 Gulden, 1849. Centenary of Goethe's Birth. Lovely tannish tone. NGC graded MS-65." This type is not expensive, suggesting that many were saved.
Recorded mintage: 8,500 plus proofs.
Specification: 21.21 g, 0.900 fine silver, .613 troy oz ASW.
