France 1828-BB 2 francs
This type was struck during the reign of Charles X of France (1824-30) from numerous mints. The specimen shown is from Strasbourg and is a rare date. Nine are reported to exist[1], not including this one, and it is priced about double the commonest date (1824A) in VF. Many issues of this type are known from a handful (<10) of examples. The type is not difficult to find but is expensive in high grade. All 2 francs issued prior to 1859, including this one, were demonetized in 1869 to make way for the succeeding issue which was only 0.835 fine.
Specification: 27 mm diameter, 10 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by Auguste François Michaut, 1786-1879.
Recorded mintage: 24,305.
Catalog reference: F.258/38 (dot before "DE"), KM 725.3.
