The first specimen was lot 2822 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 275 (about US$345 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1 Franc 1828. Lille. Vorzüglich-gutes vorzüglich (extremely fine or better)." All francs of Charles X are of this type with the exception of some very rare reeded edge specimens issued in 1830. It was demonetized in 1869. A complete set of this type comprises 84 date and mintmark combinations, many very rare. The entire production run, 1825-30, totaled about 5.3 million pieces. The production of French five franc pieces in the same period was 123 million.

Recorded mintage: 417,789 (a common date).

Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by Auguste-François Michaut, 1786-1879, the first specimen 4.94 g.
