France 1828-A 40 francs
This issue, from the Paris mint, is a common date of a type struck 1826-30. The 40 francs of Charles X are divided into three types, F.543 (1824A only), F.544 (this type) and F.545 (1830-A only, reeded edge, very rare). It was demonetized in 2005.
A complete set of this type comprises six date and mintmark combinations. Three (1828-A, 1829-A and 1830-A) are fairly available; the other three (1826-A, 1827-A and 1830-MA) are extremely rare. The entire production run, 1826-30, totaled about 455,000 pieces. The production of five franc pieces in the same period was 123 million. This date is priced about double the common date (1830-A).
Specification: 26 mm diameter, 12.90 grams, 0.900 fine gold, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by Auguste François Michaut, 1786-1879.
Recorded Mintage: 51,840[1], a fairly common date.
