This specimen was lot 1137 in Sedwick sale 10 (Winter Park, FL, October 2011), where it sold for $172.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "France (Paris mint), 1/2 franc, Charles X, 1828-A. Choice Mint State with attractive toning and subtle luster." This dime-sized coin was struck at Paris under the régime of king Charles X (1824-30). It is a common date of a type struck 1825-30. All half francs of this reign are of this type. It was demonetized in 1869.
Recorded mintage: 508,212 (third highest mintage date).
Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, plain edge. Designed by Auguste François Michaut, 1786-1879.
