This specimen was lot 99118 in Heritage sale 61253 (Dallas, January 2022), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1718-V UNC Details (Cleaned) NGC, Troyes mint. An infrequently encountered mint for the type, of which NGC has certified only a single example to date across all grade designations. Though very fine hairlines reveal a past cleaning, the offering retains a high degree of original mint luminosity across lightly toned, sun-gold surfaces." Droulers[2] notes this French type, called a louis d'or à la croix du Saint Esprit, was struck 1718-19 and replaced the louis d'or de Noailles, which was 12.23 grams. Most mints struck both types in 1718 but Troyes struck only this type.

Recorded mintage: 133,200[2], no louis d'or de Noailles.

Specification: 9.79 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24-25 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 no 796, Dr/2 № 532, Fr-453, KM 438.17, Dupl-1633, Gad-336.
