This specimen was lot 30770 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "Louis XV gold Louis d'or 1718-Q MS61 PCGS, Perpignan mint. A Mint State example from the lesser-seen mint of Perpignan, with haymarking observed throughout the golden-umber flan and some strike softness noted at the centers. In total, an eye-appealing selection in a state of preservation that remains rather impressive." Droulers[2] notes this French type, called a louis d'or à la croix du Saint Esprit, was struck 1718-19 and replaced the louis d'or de Noailles, which was 12.23 grams.

Recorded mintage: unknown plus a few of the louis d'or de Noailles[2].

Specification: 9.79 g, 0.917 fine gold, reeded edge, 22-23 mm diameter.
