The first specimen was lot 20069 in Ponterio sale 176 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $2,115. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Edward VI, 1547-1553. Half Sovereign, ND (1547-51). E. Southwark. Posthumous titles of Henry VIII. Seated king with orb and scepter, youthful face. Rv. Crowned shield supported by lion and rampant dragon. ‘E’ at base. A rare and important type, with interesting small die breaks on the obverse. There are some tooling marks noted across the king. This example creates an excellent first impression. Very Fine Details. Ex: Lubbock, 1981." This half sovereign was tariffed at ten shillings. This specimen is a rare product of the Southwark mint. The second specimen was lot 1566 in Sincona sale 82 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 1,900 CHF (about US$2,543 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "Edward VI, Coinage in the name of Henry VIII. 1547-1551. 1/2 Sovereign n. d. (1547-1551), Tower Mint. In the name of Henry VIII. Mintmark "K", below shield. NGC XF Details. Gereinigt (Cleaned)."

Specification: gold, 100 grains (6.47 g); the first specimen is 95.8 grains; the second specimen 6.13 g.

Catalog reference: the first specimen is S-2394; North-1866; Fr-174; the second specimen is Spink 2392, Schneider coll. 656, Fr-174.
