This specimen was lot 32634 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "People's Republic Proof "Year of the Goat" 10 Yuan 1991 PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. Lunar series and year of the goat. A sterling example of the type." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. In addition to the well known series of panda coins in silver, gold and platinum, the regime has also marketed a series based on the Chinese zodiac. This one honors the Year of the Goat. For 1991, the series comprised KM 360 (shown here); KM 361 (1 oz silver 10 yuan); KM 362 (silver 50 yuan); KM 363 (silver 100 yuan); KM 364 (gold 100 yuan); KM 365 (platinum 100 yuan); KM 366 (gold 150 yuan); KM 367 (gold 500 yuan) and KM 368 (gold 1000 yuan). The Lunar series were struck to this standard 1983-91 along with a concurrent series of one ounce silver ten yuan struck 1988-2000.
