This specimen was lot 1669 in Goldberg Sale 139 (Los Angeles, June 2024), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "China (People's Republic). 5 Yuan, 1991. Weight 0.050 ounce. Panda with hind feet in water eating bamboo. In original sealed mint packaging. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. The first gold panda was issued in 1983 and quickly became an annual release. Other five yuan for 1991 included KM 377, 378, 379 and 380.

Recorded mintage: 206,254 plus 3,500 proofs.
