from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72293

This specimen was lot 72293 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 100 Yuan, 1991. Lunar Series, Year of the Goat. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Featuring a goat in an action scene, this pleasing type presents an intense mirror nature on the obverse. Nearly flawless and incredibly brilliant." After Hong Kong released several successful commemoratives in the late 70's featuring the Chinese zodiac, the government of China took notice. This NCLT honoring the Year of the Goat was accompanied by KM 360 (silver 10 yuan), KM 361 (1 oz silver 10 yuan), KM 362 (silver 50 yuan), KM 363 (silver 100 yuan), KM 365 (platinum 100 yuan), KM 367 (gold 500 yuan), KM 368 (gold 1000 yuan). The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more.
