China 1992 10 yuan KM-427
This specimen was lot 2500 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$214 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA Volksrepublik, 150 Yuan 1992, Shanghai Mint. Proof. Lunar Serie. Selten. Nur 10'000 Exemplare geprägt. Polierte Platte. Im Originaletui mit Zertifikat (Rare. Only 10,000 pieces struck, Choice Proof, In original box with certificate)." After Hong Kong released several successful commemoratives in the late 70's featuring the Chinese zodiac, the government of China took notice. The first lunar series NCLT was issued in 1983 for the Year of the Pig. This one honors the Year of the Monkey and came in many sizes and metals. The regime also issued many other silver and gold ten yuan NCLT's in 1992 (KM 392, 396, KM 397, 427, 428, 438, 439, 441, 442, 443, 444, 454, 466, 468, A397).
