China H3064-32637b.jpg

This specimen was part of lot 32637 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), which sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "Four-Piece People's Republic silver Certified Panda 10 Yuan Coins 1989. Baby panda upon grid. All coins are certified MS69 by NGC. Sold as is, no return lot." The silver panda was introduced in 1983 and after several years of low sales, started to become popular in the early nineties, especially after the weight was increased to one troy ounce. It is now a strong competitor to the Mexican libertad, the U.S. silver eagle and the Canadian maple leaf, and hundreds of varieties exist.

Recorded mintage: 250,000 plus 25,000 proofs.

Specification: 31.1 g, 0.999 fine silver, 1.00 troy oz AGW.
