This specimen was lot 778 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA (PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC): PT 100 yuan, 1989, Chinese Zodiac Series - Year of the Snake, 1 ounce .9995 platinum, with original COA and box of issue, PCGS graded Proof 69 DCAM." This denomination was used for numerous NCLT's in 1989: KM 225, 228, KM 229, 230, 234, KM 235, 236 (shown here), 244, KM 252, 255, 258 and 261. The Chinese zodiac series, struck in silver, gold and platinum, is probably the most popular after the pandas.
