This specimen was lot 33507 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $781.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "China: People's Republic gold "Small Date" Panda 50 Yuan (1/2 oz) 1989 MS69 NGC." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. This one features the panda, one of a series first issued in 1983.

Recorded mintage: 120,588 plus proofs.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.500 troy oz AGW.
