Jean Elsen sale 133, lot 1131

This specimen was lot 1131 in Jean Elsen sale 133 (Brussels, June 2017), where it sold for €440 (about US$582 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINE, République populaire (1949-), AV 100 yuan, 1988. Empereur Zhao Guang Yin. Ecrin laqué, certificat n° 1120. Flan poli. (people's republic of China, since 1949, one hundred yuan of 1988, emperor Zhao Guang Yin. Proof.)"

The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more.

Recorded mintage: unknown but all proofs.

Specification: 11.32 g, 0.917 fine gold.
