Steve Album sale 51, lot 4136

This specimen was lot 4136 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $204. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA (PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC): AR 50 yuan, 1988, Seoul 1988 - 24th Summer Olympic Games - Volleyball, in multisided capsule of issue, a few wispy obverse hairlines, a hint of reverse peripheral toning, mintage of only 3,898 pieces, Proof, S." The fifty yuan for 1988 included KM 186, KM 188, KM 194 and KM 205 (shown here). Many of the early NCLT's are today scarce. There was no market for them in China and foreign sales were poor.
