Heritage sale 3064, lot 32633

This specimen was lot 32633 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $780. The catalog description^[1] noted, "People's Republic gold Proof "Year of the Dragon" 150 Yuan 1988 PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. Glass-like in the fields with bold contrast on the raised surfaces." After Hong Kong released several successful commemoratives in the late 70's featuring the Chinese zodiac, the government of China took notice. This NCLT honoring the Year of the Dragon was accompanied by KM 193 (silver 10 yuan); KM 194 (silver 50 yuan); KM 195 (silver 100 yuan); KM 196 (gold 100 yuan), KM 197 (platinum 100 yuan), KM 199 (gold 500 yuan) and KM 200 (gold 1000 yuan). The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more.
