from the Stack's Bowers October 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70382

This specimen was lot 70380 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2021), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 150 Yuan, 1987. Lunar Series, Year of the Rabbit. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Nearly perfect, with any detractions indiscernible to the cataloger. An excellent design that captures the beauty of the Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Hubei province." After Hong Kong released several successful commemoratives in the late 70's featuring the Chinese zodiac, the government of China took notice. This NCLT honoring the Year of the Rabbit was accompanied by a silver ten yuan (KM 169) and silver fifty yuan (KM 170).

Recorded mintage: 4,780 proofs.

Specification: 8 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.2359 troy oz AGW.
