This specimen was lot 2268 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "China. 25 Yuan, 1987 (S). Panda drinking. Choice Brilliant Uncirculated." For several years in the eighties, the Shanghai mint ("S") and Shenyang mint ("Y") affixed mintmarks to their products, as here. The practice has since been discontinued.

Recorded mintage: 97,358 (s + y) + 10,000 proofs (P).

Specification: 7.78 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.250 ounce AGW.
