This specimen was lot 40399 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, August 2026), where it sold for $9,150. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Chihuahua. Copper 5 Centavos Pattern, 1915-MS. NGC MS-63 Brown. The plate coin in Guthrie-Bothamley for this intriguing and well-made type that is described within as 'undoubtedly a pattern' due to the lack of a prominent die flaw to the left of the eagle's neck, which appears on 1914-dated coins struck with the same die. The conclusion is thus that these pieces were struck prior to the 1914 coins, presumably during planning for the 1915 design. The unusual Roman numeral denomination and relatively fine manufacture would seem to support this theory." The five centavos actually issued (KM 613) used an entirely different design.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.3-6.9 g, copper, 25 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-Pn5; GB-59 (this coin plated).
