This specimen was lot 70548 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. 16 Gute Groschen, 1798-MC. Brunswick Mint. Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand. PCGS MS-63 Gold Shield. A beautifully struck and fully lustrous coin, struck on a strongly grained planchet, most noticeable on the reverse." This type was struck 1784-1805 along with an 8 gute groschen (KM 1026). We don't know its value in relation to the four, six, twelve and 24 mariengroschen struck at the same time. The coin is marked "XX EINE FEINE MARK CONVENTIONS", that is, half a thaler.
