Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1795-MC pfennig
This specimen was lot 5558 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €750 (about US$1,044 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand, 1780-1806. Silberabschlag von den Stempeln des Ku.-Pfennigs 1795, Braunschweig. Von großer Seltenheit. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 143, Osnabrück 2008, Nr. 1756. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Charles William Ferdinand, 1780-1806, off-metal strike in silver of a copper pfennig of 1795, Brunswick mint. Extremely fine, superb patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck in copper 1780-1806. It shows the old spelling of "pfenning" instead of the modern "pfennig".
