The first specimen was lot 74625 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Brunswick. 6 Mariengroschen, 1688. Zellerfeld Mint; mm: three stars. Rudolph August & Anton Ulrich. PCGS AU-53. Quite well struck despite its smaller module, this attractive specimen offers a gunmetal gray tone with a charming overall appearance. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." The second specimen was lot 875 in Steve Album Auction 52 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2025), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[2] noted, "BRUNSWICK-WOLFENBÜTTEL: Rudolf August, 1666-1704, AR 6 mariengroschen, Zellerfeld, 1688, Wildman, struck on heptagonal planchet, with trace of other characters in reverse margin, VF, ex Myntkompaniet/AB Philea Auction 28, Lot 788; ex WAG Auction 48, Lot 480. We know of no other specimens on a heptagonal flan." This type was struck without mintmark 1686-1700. It is priced rather higher than the equivalent six mariengroschen with the leaping stallion reverse (KM 606 and KM 622).
