Künker sale 354, lot 5499

This specimen was lot 5499 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €150 (about US$ including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, FÜRSTENTUM, Rudolf August und Anton Ulrich, 1685-1704. 6 Mariengroschen 1697, Wolfenbüttel. Mit Signatur D x F · (Damian Fritsch, Münzmeister in Wolfenbüttel 1697). Sehr schön. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Slg. Dr. Ahlers, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 39, Osnabrück 1997, Nr. 3250. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Rudolf August and Anton Ulrich, 1685-1704, six mariengroschen of 1697, Wolfenbüttel mint, with initials "D x F". Very fine.)"

This type was struck 1696-97 and was worth one sixth of a thaler. Similar 12 mariengroschen (one-third thaler) and 24 mariengroschen (two-thirds thaler or gulden) were struck.
