Sincona sale 11, lot 802

This type was struck 1688-1703 in Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel and is among the more common thalers of the period. This specimen was lot 802 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 1,250 CHF (about US$1,548 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND -Wolfenbüttel Rudolf August und Anton Ulrich, 1685-1704. Taler 1697, Zellerfeld. Gutes vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Rudolf August and Anton Ulrich (1685-1704), thaler of 1697, Zellerfeld mint. Good extremely fine.)"

Confusingly, the post-1700 issues are catalogued as Dav-2111.
