Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 41247

This specimen was lot 41247 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Wolfenbuttel. 1/4 "Light" Taler, 1576. Goslar Mint. Julius. PCGS EF-45. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1570-82 and is more available than several later types such as KM MB263 and KM 5. The "light" in the nickname refers to the lamp in the wild man's hand, not the weight.
